Question #3:

Can anyone give constructive criticism on essay?

(Please do not just only give me grammatical criticism, but tell me if the structure is correct and etc.)
Boy scouting is a treasured organization not only in America , but throughout the world. Adopting young boy’s from the tender age of eleven, it exposes them to endless possibilities. It’s roots string from James Robert Baden-Powell in 1907 as he began the movement in Great Britain prior to the Boer War in South Africa, to then have his practices transferred over to America in 1910. The organization has now developed allowing each member to become apart of the scouting experience, while not only gaining useful life skills, but a brotherhood to rely on.

All boy scouts must realize that there are fundamental rules that they must oblige by. They consist of a set of laws such as: The scout oath, Law, motto, slogan, and outdoor code. Each one represents how a scout must behave wearing a uniform and even during their life. Remembering them by heart not only stands for what a person should be, but who they are. These rules are the guide lines for a scout and must be treated with such honor.

During the course of the boy scout’s experience, scouts must go on several camping trips; allowing themselves to not only be depend ant of the suburban/urban life style which isn’t what this country is about. It’s true identity is filled with vast prairies that stench for miles upon miles of open land, unused by any developers and contractors trying to built strip malls. Instead of large metropolitan communities and small towns, think forest are occupied by forest critters roaming around just as god intended. A scout gets the opportunity to venture off and track through arduous and difficult terrains going on hikes, exhilarating water rafting trips, pioneering, and etc. Depending on the troop though, many of these skill based activities aren’t done.

Alternative trips are spent going to boy scout camps where needed fundamental skills are practiced to progress in a scout’s rank. These experiences do not rank up to the full experience to outdoor adventures, but required skills that are needed. Some of them can be done at home, defeating the purpose of the whole experience. Cooking, cleaning, fire making, cutting wood, and pioneering are some of the various activities done on a camping trip. This approach to scouting isn’t as full as venturing out into the wilderness, yet it’s different.

While boys join the troop for numerous reasons, others have a clear object. Out of the six ranks, Eagle is the highest rank in the organization. A total of twenty-one merit badges are laid out to prepare a scout with skills needed. Each one represents the knowledge that a scout has earned throughout the course of a scout’s time in the organization. For instance, “Citizenship in the Community” is a badge that has requires critical research skills and the dedication to analyze data about that boy’s community. Their exposure to the these types of badges are not to just be fun, but an opportunity to gain knowledge.

In conclusion, scouting exposes a young boy to endless possibilities that are laid out and teaches useful skills. Camping is the greatest part of the scouting experience, yet isn’t the core. Every guide line and skill are useful to the boy’s development. The total twenty-one merit badges are to equip these boys, to hopefully develop them into an Eagle scout-only if they want it. Being a scout and gaining valuable skills is a trait that each member can treasure throughout their life.

Question #5:

Obama declares victory?

CAMP SPRINGS, MD—Addressing troops at Andrews Air Force Base Tuesday, President Barack Obama claimed victory in Iraq, saying that formal combat operations in the region would end Aug. 31, and that the United States had emerged from the seven-year war triumphant, kind of.

"For nearly a decade, our mission in Iraq has been to root out those who would choose violence over peace, to create a stable Iraqi government, and to transfer power to an incorruptible civilian police force," Obama said. "And, in a manner of speaking, we sort of did some of that, right? More or less?"

"Granted, this is not the definitive, World War II–like victory most of us expected," Obama continued. "But there's a military triumph in there somewhere, I swear. You just have to look at it from the right angles."

According to the president, the relative victory could be credited to a number of achieved benchmarks, depending upon how strict one's definition of "achieved" is. Obama pointed to the democratic election of an Iraqi parliament currently being held together by a thread; the streets of Iraq being slightly less hellish than they were in 2006; and the fact that women are now, for the most part, free to move around the country so long as they don't make a big production out of it.

Obama also noted that during the war more Iraqi insurgents died than American troops, which, he admitted, isn't necessarily the best way to determine a war's victor, but is nonetheless still preferable to the other way around.

"By the end of this month, victory, to a certain extent, will be ours, and we can finally welcome our troops back home," Obama concluded. "That is unless they are one of the 50,000 U.S. soldiers who will have to stay in the region for the foreseeable future."

Following the president's address, a car bomb ripped through an outdoor market in Baghdad killing eight Iraqis and wounding 32.

Pentagon officials also declared the mission, in a sense, kind of sort of accomplished Tuesday, citing the handful of Iraqi hearts and minds that may have been won over by the U.S. occupancy, and the fact that Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki had not yet been assassinated.

"In cases where we were unable to rebuild infrastructure or quell violent civil unrest, it wasn't for lack of trying," Gen. Ray Odierno, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, said during last Sunday's taping of ABC's This Week. "And trying your best, one could argue, is technically a triumph in and of itself."

"And hey, Saddam Hussein isn't in power anymore," Odierno continued. "So that's something."

With the cessation of combat operations, and the declaration of what sources said couldn't be called a complete and utter failure because to do so would be to admit that the U.S. wasted $750 billion, lost 4,400 troops, and killed 100,000 Iraqi civilians for absolutely nothing, both Democrats and Republicans have attempted to take credit for the quasi-victory.

"President Obama deserves zero praise for this borderline accomplishment," Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told reporters. "After all, if it weren't for President Bush ordering the initial invasion of Iraq and making it his central foreign policy initiative, we wouldn't be here right now awkwardly celebrating the muddled outcome of whatever the hell it is we've been doing over there for the past seven years."

Pentagon and White House sources said the American people should expect more wince-inducing victory-if-you-can-call-it-that celebrations 10 or 15 years from now when we kind of, but not really, win in Afghanistan

Question #6:

Can you help me remember the title of this movie?

I remember watching this weird show when I was younger could've been about urban legends or something. It was in the 90's, a bunch of short stories. A grandma puts her little dog in the microwave, possibly to dry it off and it explodes all over her and the kitchen. There's this outdoor bathroom at a school and the janitor turns into a monster or alien or something. There were some kids camping in a tent telling scary stories. Lots of random information, but do you remember this show???

Question #8:

What are some fun things to do for a party?

My friend and I are throwing an end of the summer/back to school party and looking for some fun things to do. We're going to be camping out in the yard, so outdoor things would be best. Something unique and exciting would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. (:

Question #9:

Wedding venues for a nontraditional wedding? It has to be in Bakersfield or 2 hours away.?

My best friend is having some difficulty in finding a wedding venue. She was thinking first to have it in the Kern County museum (because her wedding is 50s rockabilly style) and there is an actual 50s diner there but it was too expensive, so they skipped on it. They were thinking of doing it at Monster mini golf, and also a camping ground but none of that worked out.
What I'm looking for is:
-places that are $1500 or less. If you find a place we're looking for like these, but don't know how much money it will be, tell us anyway, we will found out. :)
-What we don't want: public parks and restaurants.
-It doesn't matter if it is an Indoor or outdoor venue(s).

If you have seen Crybaby, you will know sort of the Rockabilly style. That's an idea I guess. If not, just look up on photobucket, deviantart, google images, and search "rockabilly"

Basically, its all about tattoos and rock and roll :)

Thanks a lot!

Best answer will receive best answer
Oops I meant Bakersfield CA
I meant *around* Bakersfield CA. I said it has to be withing 2 hours
and I'm taking it that you are being sarcastic? It's what she wants to do, and she happens to like that style. She doesn't have any tattoos, and there is nothing wrong with rock and roll.

The worst part is the outdoor rehearsal in the afternoon. The sun is beating down on me and I'm sore by that time and it's really repetitive and it feels like there's no end to it. Also, the morning is really long... tips/help? =(

Question #14:

Are they any girls here who wear vintage clothes and always wear skirts and dresses?

I want to start dressing in vintage 1950's clothes all the time. I know women did wear pants in the 50's, but it was just for doing housework or to outdoor things like picnics, camping, etc. Generally, when you left the house, you wore a dress. I used to always wear pants and jeans, but got tired of it, I want to be girly and feminine and I want to be completely vintage, so it's skirts and dresses all the time I think. I also want to wear garter belts, girdles and stockings all the time, just like ladies did in the 50's. Hats and white gloves, too!. If you did the same, how did everyone react?

Question #15:

How can i take car of my outdoor cat when she is pregnant?

So, I got my cat a little over a year ago, and she was indoor most of the time. My mom kicked her outside in about January or February to our breezeway/garage. I just got home from band camp for a week, and i started to notice that she is pregnant. I felt her tummy and i could feel movement inside. She is basically my cat, she comes when i call for her, and she likes me i think. Haha.
What foods should i feed her?
Should i bring her back into the house for a while?
Can i touch the kittens when they are born?
Should i feed her milk?

Please help!

Question #18:

How to be a good step mom?

My fiance and I are getting married next year. He has a 9 year old daughter who lives with her mother about a 20 hour drive away from us. This is the 3rd summer that we have had her. (We have been together for a few years and live together.) We currently have her for about another 3 weeks. Here is the problem:

SHE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! We get along well and she says she likes me - and she is excited we are getting married, BUT I want to scream. She is a total little brat. And we did NOT have this problem last year. She thinks she is entitled to everything. She never says thank you and has bad manners. She has a little attitude all of the time. (Her mom thinks it is a hormonal about to start her period thing). She cried for the first week she was here that she wanted to go home and now she wants to move here permanently like she did last year. She helps herself to things that do not belong to her. She is just totally unappreciative and annoying. She does something EVERYDAY that makes me want to scream WHY!? It is like she is completely lacking any common sense. I love her and I love children and want to have more, but... I feel like I am going to be the worst parent ever because I have been so frustrated lately.

Any ideas?
35 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer.

Her dad has talked to her, but I mostly try to stay out of the disciplinary stuff if he is there... we have also talked to her mom and she acts the same way at home. I have disciplined her once or twice, but that is when I am caring for her and her dad is at work or out of the house. (Such as taken her call phone away - her mom gave it to her not us).

And I do activities with her ALL of the time when I dont have to work. Baseball games, water parks, camping, library, outdoor activities, cooking/baking... etc

Question #20:

Should I switch from hard contact lenses to soft contact lenses?

Currently, I wear hard contact lenses (RGP) during the day time. I've been wanting to switch to soft contact lenses because the hard ones are uncomfortable and inconvenient when I'm doing outdoor sports (swimming, running, camping, etc.) and when driving. I have myopia (nearsightedness) and I'm worried my eyes will deteriorate.

Here's my eye history:
2nd grade: -3.00
5th grade: -5.00
I switched to contact lenses throughout middle/high school, and didn't get an accurate prescription then.
First year college (2009-2010): -9.00 to -10.00

I'm 19 years old, male, just finished my first year in college.
I'm most concerned about my vision deteriorating. My dad has -6.00 nearsightedness and my mom has -4.5 nearsightedness.
